Selected Projects
Basslink (Australia) HVDC Interconnection. The study involved assisting Hydro Tasmania in modeling the 600 MW, 300 km undersea cable Basslink Project on PSCAD. Studies were undertaken in PSCAD to evaluate the performance of Basslink as it affected the Tasmanian power system.
Lamar Back to Back 210 MW DC Link. Consultant to Xcel Energy of Denver, CO involving the following activities,
- Pre-specification studies
- Writing the technical specification
- Evaluation of tenders
- Insulation coordination studies (PSCAD)
- Control performance studies
- Sub-synchronous resonance studies
- TNA real time simulation studies
- Studies associated with commissioning
This project was undertaken with the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre and Manitoba Hydro International.
Feasibility of Interconnecting to the Pacific HVDC Intertie for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the California Energy Commission. This work entails studying ways to use dc and ac transmission to transfer renewable energy from Nevada and California into the San Francisco Bay area. Work includes a detailed examination of tapping the existing Pacific HVDC Intertie. The work involves PSCAD, loadflow, and transient stability studies, and is being undertaken with the Western Area Power Administration, Winfield Enterprise LLC (Lakewood, Colorado) and the Center for Resource Solutions (San Francisco).
Malaysia - Indonesia HVDC Interconnection. As subcontractor for PTI, the work involves training of Indonesian and Malaysian utility engineers in the latest means of simulating AC and DC transmission systems. With them, a detailed PSCAD study was undertaken that included feasibility, controls assessment and sub synchronous resonance impact.
New Mexico - Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association. Undertake a system impact study as well as a facilities study for a proposed wind farm connection to their electric power system. Partner on this Project: Winfield Enterprise, LLC.
New Mexico - Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association. ±25 MVAR Clapham Static VAR System as consultant undertaking the following activities with Winfield Enterprise, LLC and the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre:
